Shirley and Bernard Kinsey of the Kinsey Collection, Don and Mera Rubell of the Rubell Museums, and Fred Guiffrida and Pamela Joyner of The Joyner/Giuffrida Collection of Abstract Art are notable collecting couples featured in our story. They form an influential vanguard of power players responsible for transforming art history. These couples are actively working to reframe Black history and create space for Black artists, whose contributions have often been overlooked.
CBS News interviewed both the Kinseys and the Rubells in the videos below. Additionally, Pamela Joyner discusses her art collecting journey and the significant role of Black artists in key art movements during her TEDx Talk, Reframing Art History.
Artwork in the header by Alexandre Diop from the Rubell Museum DC is highlighted as a 2024 'One to Watch.'
